Prep to Year 4 Excursion

Some of the students making the rope.

What a fabulous day everyone had at the Hervey Bay Historical Village. Students in prep to year 4 were very excited to travel to Hervey Bay on the 'big bus'. On arrival they were taken back in time to the early 1900's. Students were shown how rope was made, how corn was stripped and ground into cornflour, the saw how wood was turned and how the wood was cut to build their houses, and they watched the blacksmith at work making horse shoes.

Then the students broke into groups and wandered around the village looking at the old buildings such as the slab hut, cottages, an old railway station and school. There was an abundance of things to look at.

The day ended with a sausage sizzle and back to school where the children enjoyed home made honey joys and chocolate crackles. It was a great day of learning about the olden days.
